Role: Health and Safety Manager
Location: Ipswich, Suffolk
Salary: Circa £45k – £50k
A local foundry, castings, and machining company is now seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join their team.
Responsibility for the health and safety manager Job at Ipswich
- Manage the Health and Safety of around 100 employees on site.
- Review, update, and maintain the company’s HSE Procedures and Policies.
- Manage and maintain the company’s EMS System and ISO 14001 Accreditation.
- Liaise with the Local Authorities and Environment Agency.
- Conduct Control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH )Assessments.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and enforce appropriate control measures to mitigate occupational health and safety risks across all areas of the foundry operations.
- Provide guidance and support to management and employees on health, safety, and environmental matters.
- Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, near misses, and environmental spills, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor and analyze HSE performance metrics and trends, preparing reports and making recommendations for improvement to senior management.
- Cooperate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver adequate health, safety, and environmental training programs, ensuring workers are trained to perform their roles safely and comply with relevant standards.
- Stay abreast of emerging health, safety, and environmental trends, regulations, and best practices, and proactively incorporate relevant changes into the organization’s HSE management systems.
- Drive initiatives to minimize environmental impact, reduce waste generation, and promote sustainability within the foundry operations.

Requirements for the health and safety manager role at Ipswich:
- The ideal candidate MUST come from the manufacturing industry as a health and safety manager with the following skills, qualifications, or experience: Hold a NEBOSH General, NVQ Level 4, NCRQ, or be equivalent in occupational health and safety.
- Member of IOSH and working towards CMIOSH.
- Experience in managing and maintaining ISO 14001
- Ideally, I would like an environmental management qualification such as IEMA, but it is optional.
- Have a hands-on and proactive approach to Health and Safety.
