ABOUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGER ROLE

Webuild is hiring an HSE Manager for a project in Ethiopia.

Responsibilities for the health and safety manager role:

The HSE Manager will guarantee, for the project, that all HSE requirements set by local regulations are met. He/she will also correctly implement the Company’s Management System, in line with ISO 45001 and 14001 standards.

In particular, the main tasks of the HSE Project Manager consist of:

  • Promoting a culture of workplace safety and environmental protection.
  • Defining the project HSE structure, managing the related resources.
  • Identifying applicable laws and ensuring their correct implementation.
  • Drawing-up the Health, Environment, and Safety Plan, and more generally, the project documentation required by contract needed to ensure compliance with the HSE management system.
  • Collaborating in the process of identifying OHS hazards, assessing the risks and defining the prevention and protection measures associated with the activities and plants.
  • Identifying significant environmental aspects concerning project activities and related plants and installations.
  • Participating in the consultations provided for safeguarding health and safety.
  • Identifying training needs in environmental matters, and proposing information and training programmes for workers.
  • Verifying the application of the preventive and protective measures defined while processing OHS risk assessments, and identifying environmental aspects.
  • Preparing and distributing reports regarding site inspections, according to competence, keeping appropriate records.
  • Preparing the HSE audit programme, carrying out the related audits.
  • Promoting, with the PM, HSE related periodic meetings, also engaging the Management and the Heads of each Sector.
  • Taking an active part in managing and coordinating subcontractors, also participating in HSE assessment activities during the selection phase.
  • Monitoring project HSE performance.
  • Investigating incidents, preparing related reports, and disseminating the lessons learned.
  • Defining HSE emergency management activities, planning and carrying out exercises.

Requirements for the health and safety manager role in Ethiopia:

  • 10 years of experience at this job.
  • Technical degree (e.g., Civil Engineering).
  • Experience in the construction sector is preferred.
  • ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 internal auditor qualification.
  • Familiarity with Legislative Decree 81/08 and Legislative Decree 152/06 and amendments and integration.
  • In-depth understanding of the English language.
