In the workplace, vehicles and equipment are being driven from one location to the other. There are few places where automated vehicles can be used. However, in other places where automated vehicles are not used, drivers will be needed. It is always important that drivers are carefully trained and supervised so that they don’t end up causing accidents in the workplace. A safe driver is what is needed in a work place.
Below are the requirements that ensure a safe driver in the workplace.
1.Competency.
This is one major factor you should think of when hiring a driver in your workplace. All drivers have to be competent for them to drive any vehicle in the workplace. There should be proof of their competency, for example, evidence of a driver’s license. Sometimes, refresher training can be conducted for them. When hired, continually check their driving license to ensure that they don’t have any penalties for Road traffic offences.
2.Fitness.
Ensure that all drivers are fit to drive. They should be medically fit and healthy to drive. In most companies, there is a routine medical examination to check the medical fitness of the drivers. So consider that too in your organisation.
3.Training.
Create a program to train the drivers periodically. This will ensure that they do not forget the knowledge they need to drive safely. Ensure that the training is specific to that workplace. Sometimes, you may do driver’s specific induction when employing them.

4.Supervision.
Ensure that drivers are supervised in the cause of their work. There should be a system in place to monitor the speed of the driving. Ensure they obey the site rules in place. Make sure that they don’t follow the pedestrian route.
